Course Overview

The ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Awareness course provides delegates with an overview of the standard and its requirements. The course provides industry with a model for understanding, establishing, managing and improving their environmental activities, aspects and impacts.

This course is designed to be relevant to all levels of staff, and can be adjusted to suit the specific participants.

Course Objectives

The revised standard reflects current organizational environmental management concerns, including the increasing awareness of going “green” by implementing controls to manage the prevention of pollution. It is also designed to be more effective and easily adaptable, while being simpler to implement and assess. This course has been designed to provide an overview of the Environmental Management Systems concept. Fundamentals or Risk, Governance, Changes from ISO 14001:2004, Definitions, Clause overview in relation to the Plan Do Check Act Model.

  • History of ISO
  • Importance and benefits of an ISO 14001:2015 EMS
  • Requirements, terms and definitions of ISO 14001:2015
  • Structure of ISO 14001:2015 and framework for Environmental management system standards
  • Risk-based thinking, process approach, Plan-Do-Check-Act, and the management principles
  • Identify environmental impacts of their organisation
  • Understand key terms and definitions of pollution
  • Learn basic principles, key concepts and importance of environmental law
  • Identify the link between their jobs and a range of environmental impacts
  • Understand business benefits of adopting an environmental management system
  • Identify key issues related to energy use and waste minimization, water use, pollution and emergency planning
  • Legislation, Water Discharge, Discharge to the air, Noise pollution, Financial Penalties & Waste Disposal


  • Adopt a risk based approach to the EMS
  • Continually improve on the EMS within your organization


All delegates who successfully pass the assessment over 60% will be issued with a certificate of competence. If you receive lower than 60% a certificate of attendance will be issued.


An Assessment at the end of the course will be required. A minimum of 60% is to be achieved to attain a Competence Certificate. If you achieve lower than 60% but get between 40 – 59% a second attempt will become available. If you get lower than 40% and fail the second attempt you will need to re-purchase the course. An attendance certificate is awarded to you regardless of a pass or fail.
